Flexible Online Counselling for Adults and Young People
What Is Online Counselling?

Online counselling offers a flexible, secure way to access therapy from anywhere in the UK. Instead of meeting face‑to‑face, you connect with your counsellor through trusted video platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Skype. This person‑centred approach provides the same level of confidentiality and support as in‑person sessions, helping you explore your experiences and wellbeing in a comfortable online space.
Does Online Counselling Work ?

The Effectiveness of Online Counselling?
The decision ultimately rests with the individual, but if online counselling is the only option available, it can still be the key to receiving the support you need. I’ve been practising as an online counsellor for six years, and there are certainly some differences between online and in‑person work. With online counselling, interactions take place through a screen and rely on a stable Wi‑Fi connection. In today’s world — where even household appliances depend on Wi‑Fi — it’s no surprise that counselling has also evolved alongside technology.
Screen‑based interactions do have their limitations, and at one point I wasn’t fully convinced by the idea myself. Over time, though, I’ve come to genuinely appreciate the advantages that online counselling can offer. It’s true that we lose some of the subtle cues that come with sharing physical space, such as the energy in the room. Yet what can be gained through online work can be just as meaningful and impactful. Many individuals have shared that being in a familiar environment helps reduce initial anxiety, especially when encountering counselling for the first time.
The flexibility of choosing how we communicate — whether through video, phone, or even messaging — gives individuals more control over their experience. For some, the privacy and comfort of online counselling can create a safer space to begin exploring their lived experiences. It’s not about replacing in‑person connection, but about providing options and opportunities so that support remains accessible in ways that suit different needs and circumstances.

Why Online Counselling Works
Online counselling works much like in‑person sessions — it’s simply a different way to connect. For many people, it’s about choosing what fits best with their life. You might have a packed schedule, or you may have found a counsellor whose approach really suits your needs, even if they’re miles away.
For some, online counselling becomes a vital source of support, especially when getting to a physical space isn’t easy. Whether that’s due to health, location, or personal circumstances, having online services available means people now have more choice in how they access support. The table below outlines some of the key differences between online and face‑to‑face counselling.
