Starting Counselling: How It Works
Your First Steps in Counselling, Simply Explained
- 1 -
Book a Welcome Meeting
Get in touch to arrange a free 30‑minute welcome appointment. You’re welcome to reach out by email, message, or phone — whichever feels most comfortable.
- 2 -
The Welcome Meeting
A relaxed, informal meeting where we explore what you might need from counselling and get to know each other. You’ll learn what the counselling process involves, and you can ask any questions you have so you feel comfortable before starting.
- 3 -
The First Session
The first session is where we agree on a way of working together, based on what you need from the counselling process. We explore what feels important for you right now, what you’re hoping for, and how the sessions can best support you. This helps shape a clear, shared understanding of how we’ll work, so you can begin feeling settled and confident as the process unfolds.

A service built on clarity, safety, and meaningful therapeutic change
Not AI Driven
At WCSS, everything is human‑led. Your therapy is guided by real presence, real listening and genuine care — never automated scripts or algorithm‑generated responses. The same applies outside of sessions: every email, booking and message is read and replied to personally. No bots, no AI. Just human attention from start to finish.
Flexability & Choice
You get to choose how you want your therapy experience to unfold. No two counselling experiences are alike; we will explore at the beginning what will help you the most and then work toward those goals together.
Face to Face & Online Options Available
Face‑to‑face and online appointments are available, with the flexibility to adopt a hybrid approach if that suits your routine. Some people prefer the consistency of meeting in person, while others value the convenience of online sessions — and many find a blend of both works best.
You’re welcome to choose the format that feels most comfortable, and you can switch between them as your needs or circumstances change.
No Session Cut off Limits
Counselling concludes when you're ready, meaning that no one else controls the timeline for ending sessions—you make that decision.
You're In Control
At every stage of the counselling process, you remain in control, determining the focus of each session. There is no counsellor agenda; my role is solely to facilitate your journey.
Prompt & Hassle Free Booking
No long waiting times for an appointment. At the most, wait times could be up to a week. Need counselling? We'll have something arranged promptly and will be hassle free. Just send an email and we can sort a time out to talk.
Non judgemental
Bring your whole self without fear of criticism or shame.
You don’t need to filter, perform, or hide parts of your experience here. Every feeling, thought, and story is welcome — including the ones you’ve never said out loud. This is a space where you can explore who you are with honesty and safety, knowing you’ll be met with respect rather than judgement.
The aim is not perfection, but authenticity. When you can show up fully, the work becomes deeper, clearer, and genuinely transformative.
Authenticity
You’re met by a real human — someone steady, present, and genuinely engaged — which makes it easier to relax, trust, and be yourself.
The relationship matters. Feeling seen and understood helps people open up at their own pace, without pressure or performance. This human connection is often what allows the deeper work to begin.
Ethical
My work is guided by the ethical frameworks of the NCPS and BACP, which set out how counsellors safeguard clients through competence, confidentiality, boundaries, and ongoing supervision. These standards ensure that your sessions are safe, respectful, and grounded in good practice.
You can trust that the support you receive is accountable, transparent, and held within a framework designed to prioritise your wellbeing at every stage.
Transparent
I explain things clearly, check in regularly, and make sure the pace and direction feel right for you. There are no surprises or hidden processes — just a transparent, collaborative way of working that supports your confidence and comfort throughout the sessions
Privacy Focused
Everything you share is handled with care, confidentiality, and clear ethical boundaries. Your experiences aren’t judged, minimised, or treated as information to be “managed” — they’re listened to, held, and worked with thoughtfully.
This privacy allows you to talk freely, explore difficult feelings safely, and trust that what you bring into the room stays within the therapeutic relationship.
