  • Training & Experience

  • Counselling Training

I enrolled in the first year of counselling in 2008. I studied under two tutors, both of whom were psychotherapists with established reputations and private practices built from scratch. My tutors demonstrated a compassionate and professional way of working throughout my five-year training period. This approach was miles away from what I had previously experienced in other contexts, and they laid the foundation for showing me the power of person-centred counselling, leadership, and a business approach. They taught me what real counselling was supposed to look like in order to achieve the best results.

After qualifying as a counselling practitioner, I went on to study at degree level, where I explored a range of areas including interpersonal relationships, existential philosophy, and encounter group studies.

In 2019, I undertook counselling supervision training and qualified with a postgraduate diploma in counselling supervision.

    Work & Expereince

My first areas of work were in two contexts: education and domestic violence. These specialised settings involved a wide range of presenting concerns, meaning I was not limited to a particular issue or client group. I worked with a diverse range of individuals—children, young people, young adults, and adults—across therapeutic counselling, assessments, project management, group work, and the facilitation of psychoeducation programmes in primary and secondary schools

I then moved on to work with a mental health charity start‑up whose main aim was to bridge the gap between the need for support and the long wait times for NHS services such as CAMHS and IAPT. I worked across a spectrum of risk levels, from low to high, and was involved in a range of the charity’s projects. During my time there, my main roles included therapeutic counsellor, project coordinator, and deputy safeguarding lead.

I subsequently worked for a counselling charity recognised for its work with children and young people, providing outreach services in secondary schools. I also played a key role in proposing ideas and developing a strategy to implement an online counselling service during the pandemic, when young people were unable to access support in person.

    My Practice Now

I now work in private practice as a Person‑Centred Clinical Therapeutic Counsellor, accredited by the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). I am also a clinical supervisor, supporting practitioners in their professional work. I offer services both face‑to‑face and online to increase accessibility for people whose circumstances may prevent them from attending in person.

I am currently working on a series of blog posts designed to inspire professionals and individuals seeking information related to mental health, with any revenue generated going towards educational resources for professionals in training. I am also developing a group supervision service for counselling practitioners and for professionals in other support‑based roles to assist them in their work, and I am partnering with training institutions and counselling agencies to build strong, trusted professional connections.

    Enjoying The Work

I enjoy the creative elements of therapy, connecting deeply with people and stepping outside my own experiences to enter the world of another. My journey toward becoming a counsellor was shaped by the injustices I faced, which fuelled my commitment to maintaining a high standard of care and ensuring my practice is genuinely useful to those seeking support.

I find great satisfaction in meeting individuals away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and engaging with them at deeper, more meaningful levels. I truly value the people I work with and learn so much from each interaction. I am always grateful for the time shared with those I support.
